With the increased frequency of data breach stories in the news recently, we've been getting questions about what specific terms mean.

Here is a brief guide to data breach terms:

Data Breach - The unauthorized release of nonpublic information. At least 37 states have laws that mandate certain requirements once a data breach is discovered by an organization.

Nonpublic Information - Includes information such as drivers license numbers, credit card numbers, social security numbers, medical data, banking information, etc.

Identity Theft - The unauthorized use of nonpublic information.

If you're concerned about protecting your business in case of a data breach, don't hesitate to contact our office.
