The U2 concert planned this weekend in East Lansing brings enormous economic opportunity, revenue, energy, and enthusiasm to the Mid-Michigan community. In addition, it brings assorted liability exposures.

While Spartan Stadium is accustomed to hosting large public events, it's important to note that an organization's liability exposures may increase if it hosts events that are outside the scope of normal business operations. In these instances, a special events liability policy may be needed.

Things to consider:

• Will alcohol be served?
• Does the event require security? Will it be subcontracted?
• Large attendance expected? Consider event cancelation coverage to cover expenses in the event of an unexpected cancelation.
• Are pyrotechnics or fireworks included?
• Contract language. Are you required to name venue or municipality as additional insureds?
• Will you utilize volunteers?
