Last week, we talked about what you should do if you come out of a store to find your car damaged. But, what if you saw the incident or have witnesses who saw the person who damaged your car?

If you can determine who hit your parked vehicle, try to obtain their license plate number and a description of the vehicle and the driver. If possible, take a photo with your cell phone.

Contact local police to report the incident. Typically, police will not come to the scene of an accident on private property, but there will be a record of the call.

If there are any witnesses to the accident, be sure to obtain their contact information.

Contact your insurance agent to provide this information. Depending on what type of coverage you have, your deductible may be waived if you are not at fault. Your insurance company may be able to subrogate against the other driver.

If you have any questions about coverage, or aren't sure what your specific policy covers, don't hesitate to contact us!
