Refrigeration systems have been utilized to the extreme during this hot weather. If these systems fail, it's important to know if your insurance will adequately protect your business.

If you have food of significant value in walk-in freezers, you should consider adding coverage for food spoilage. A recent example involves the Mid-Michigan Food Bank. The Food Bank lost significant resources when its refrigeration system failed.

Similarly, if your business stores medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, or other items that require refrigeration, this coverage would be essential. Generally, this coverage will need to be added through a special endorsement.

If you'd like to learn more about how to protect your business in situations like these, or if you're not sure whether food spoilage coverage is included in your insurance program, contact us.
