Captives
A Captive Insurer is a risk-management technique in which a business forms its own insurance company subsidiary to finance its retained losses in a formal structure. It’s called a “captive” because the business is the sole policyholder and owns the insurance company. As with traditional insurance, captive insurance can cover several types of risk: general liability, auto liability, workers’ compensation, etc.
